Duration: 6.5/10. Elevation gain is 230m
Cel phone coverage: Full.
Water needs: 1 liter. 70% shaded
Appreciation: 4/10. Trickle waterfalls. Not especially pretty. Skip for some of the much better streams in Hong Kong.
Exercise Area: No
Transportation: Bus #9 from Shau Kei Wan (exit A3). Return via Chai Wan MTR.
Why it's worth it: Meh. Not worth it.
---------------------------------
Exit A3, take bus #9
Just as you get into a pinhole curve, ring the bell and get off at the first stop next to the gold course. Then retrace your step on the road and go straight towards Big Wave Bay.
Big Wave Bay parking lot. Stay on the right
Take the path on the right at the end of the parking lot
Another right
Here, if you go right, you will go to Big Wave Bay beach. You can spend some time there if that's your thing... Otherwise, head left... |
(Big Wave Bay beach) |
Don't miss this left turn. Otherwise, you'll be going on the Hong Kong trail
The stream is to your right. The access point is at the green house at the end. That is about 2km from the bus stop you dropped-off at. Take the steps down. The stream trek is about 1.25 to 1.5km long.
Climb to the right. Relatively easy without the rope but you can always use it to help if it is in good condition.
The 'main waterfall' (not too impressive) is a further 40m away.
Bypass it on the left |
A bit of a canyon, to bypass on the left as well...
The stream will fork and you will recognize this tree in the middle with bark missing. Head right and up through the bushes. You are just about 50-75m away from the trail. |
You will see this waterpipe. Head right, then the path is to your left. Take the path and go left. |
Left again
Right after the pavilion (not the road)
Down the stairs, towards the cemetary
Then down and through the cemetary
Down the stairs
Get in the Hing Wo building and up the stairs, then head right. Aaaaah AC! Keep going and you will soon see the indications for the Chai Wan MTR |
