Pak Mong Stream - 白芒石澗 (Lantau)

Duration:
8km (4 hours)

7/10. Wet trek. Rocks tend to be slippery. Bushwacking with lots-o-spiders.

Cel phone coverage: Full.

Water needs: 1 liter.

Appreciation: 6/10. Waterfalls are nice but it is such a drag to get out of the stream and bushwack up.

Exercise Area: No

Transportation: Tung Chung MTR exit 'D'.

Why it's worth it:

---------------------------------

Right out of Exit 'D', go straight across onto Fu Tung Street. It will take you about an hour to get to the stream.

Go under the bridge, follow on the side of the road

This is the entry point to the trail. Refer to the building and signposts to get an idea of where the path starts (on the right).
It is a bit faint

Just 10-15m in, you'll get to this railing, head left.

You'll get to a road, just cross and keep going on the path

Keep going on the path.

Go down either paths and head right.

Right

About 1 hour in, 3.5km, you'll reach the stream @ Pak Mong village. Just go right in.

Mostly very small waterfalls and slippery rocks. Be careful where you step

About 500m into the stream, you'll get to the 1st larger fall. The pool is very nice. Bypass is on the right before the pool.

Shortly after is the second large waterfall.
Climb on the left, then mid-falls, switch to the right side and climb the rest of the way.

The 3rd waterfall. The pool is also quite nice. Bypass is before the pool, on the rock-face on the right.
From this point on, you have another 30-40 minutes in the stream before the exit point.
There are no more large waterfalls afterwards

Once you get to this point, you are within 75m of the exit point.

That's the exit point. There is a shallow pool and you should be able to identify with the characteristics rock formation in front of you, and the orange mossy rock on the left. The exit is on the right and there's a small white ribbon showing the way.

This white ribbon. There's also orange-reddish ones all along the way up.

I did not like that climb much; narrow path full of spider-webs, rocky, just unpleasant climb...
It should take you about 35-40 minutes.

You will then reach the top of that hill.  Head  left...

... nice view of the airport

After another 20 or so minutes walk, you'll reach a fork. Take the path that goes down towards Tung Chung.
It will take you another 30-45 minutes to get to the road where you started.

Just keep going down...

Back to the road, head left. You will be back at Tung Chung MTR's Exit 'D" in 10-15 minutes...
